CHN / CHNS Determination
OEA Organic Elemental Analysis

Accurate, simultaneous CHNS determination

The FLASH 2000 has streamlined all steps required to achieve precise
determination of Nitrogen, Carbon, Hydrogen and Sulphur. The sample, weighed in tin capsules, is placed inside the MAS200 autosampler and, at apreset time, dropped into an oxidation/ reduction reactor kept at a temperature of 900°C. The exact amount of oxygen required for optimum combustion of the sampIe is automatically determined and delivered into the combustion reactor at the precise time. Reaction of oxygen with tin capsule at elevated temperature generates an exothermic reaction which raises the temperature to 1800°C, for a few seconds. At this high temperature both organic and inorganic substances are converted into elemental gases, which, after further reduction, are separated in a chromatQgraphic column and finally detected bya highly sensitive thermal conductivity detector ([CD). The highest degree of accuracy is ensured by the complete conversion of the total sampIe to the elemental gases without dilu.tion or splitting. Simultaneous determination of CHNS is carried out in less than ren minutes.
